What is Tax-id? and why is it needed

If you are in US we need to report your earning to IRS and for that we need your tax-id or SSN if you are an individual.

But tax-is or SSN is needed only when you redeem your earnings, however to setup the account and starting the referral doesn’t need tax-id etc.
